Press Release

Call for Unity to End Lootocracy and Arbitrary Governance in Byas Municipality

In recent days, alarming incidents of irregularities, corruption, and mismanagement have been observed in Byas Municipality, Tanahun. These issues have raised serious concerns among the residents regarding the misuse of municipal resources, opaque decision-making processes in development projects, and unilateral decisions made without public consultation. Furthermore, the disorderly management of public assets has added to the distress of the citizens.

One of the most concerning revelations is the recently exposed audio scandal linked to land procurement for waste management. This incident has raised significant doubts about the transparency and accountability of the municipal administration. The evidence suggests that certain representatives are acting in their own self-interest rather than prioritizing the welfare of the public. Such actions warrant an immediate and impartial investigation.

In this regard, we urge the Mayor to take the following steps:

1. Conduct an Impartial Investigation into the Waste Management Land Scandal

An independent investigation committee should be formed with the participation of all political parties in the district to ensure a fair and unbiased probe.

The entire investigation process must be transparent, and all findings should be disclosed to the public.

Those found guilty must face legal consequences to restore the public’s faith in the municipal administration.

2. Investigate Past Corrupt Practices and Irregularities

A comprehensive inquiry should be conducted into financial misconduct, corruption, and arbitrary decision-making within the municipality.

Given that no fraudulent activities can take place without the involvement of elected representatives and officials, a clear examination of their roles is necessary.

The investigation should cover past and ongoing cases to prevent further damage to public trust and resources.

3. Implement Structural Reforms to Prevent Future Corruption and Mismanagement

Public participation in decision-making related to public assets and development projects should be made mandatory to ensure accountability.

All decisions concerning the municipal budget and development plans must be made transparent and accessible to the residents.

Strong anti-corruption policies and mechanisms should be put in place to prevent the recurrence of such malpractices.

The prosperity, good governance, and transparency of Byas Municipality depend on collective efforts from all stakeholders, including the residents, political parties, civil society, and relevant authorities. It is crucial to unite against systemic corruption and put an end to the exploitative governance model that has plagued the municipality.

All stakeholders must fulfill their responsibilities with utmost seriousness to protect the rights of the people and establish a system of good governance. This is a call for action, urging everyone to work together in safeguarding the public’s interests and ensuring accountability in municipal affairs.

Expressing Solidarity with All Residents,
